<p>The aim of this paper is to evaluate the use of renewable energy technologies, mainly solar photo-voltaics and wind turbines, as a means of generating electricity in a domestic situation. The opinions, preferences and behaviours of the general public were evaluated through a homeowner survey. Also surveyed were the opinions of architects and engineers, and manufacturers and suppliers of renewable energy technologies. The overall findings of the research cast doubt on the applicability of micro-wind power in a domestic setting. However they showed that solar power has great potential for the future of domestic microgeneration, with its greatest barrier being cost.</p>
