<p>An analysis has been made for the flow and regeneration characteristics in the regenerators, which are made of mesh screens and bundle of parallel wires. The analysis would be focused on the effects of regenerator geometries. A model is developed by taking the matrix as an anisotropic porous medium. The regeneration characteristics of regenerators are investigated by comparing the Nu, hsf and NTU of the screen mesh regenerator and parallel wire regenerator under oscillating flow conditions. And it is indicate that the regeneration performance in screen mesh regenerator is better than parallel wire regenerator under certain oscillating flow conditions. The mass flow distribution homogeneity factor Fm is conceived and derived to reflect the gas mass flow distribution in the porous matrix, and heat penetration depth and porosity are also indicated to be the indexes of optimizing the matrix geometry.</p>
