<p>Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) market ensures a promising future. Publications and market research reports considered as reference in the sector estimated a C.A.G.R (Compound Annual Growth Rate) around 28% for the period 2014-2021 (Nanomarkets, 2014, pages 9-10). Despite the favourable framework, estimations have been subsequently overestimated in the past few years. A series of demands from the stakeholders which have not been properly addressed by the BIPV value chain are the cause for this deviation. These key requirements are mainly related to the flexibility in design and aesthetics considerations, demonstration of long-term reliability of the technology, compliance with legal regulations and cost effectiveness. Within this context, the objective of PVSITES project (Building Integrated Photovoltaic technologies and systems for large-scale market deployment), is to drive BIPV technology to a large market deployment by demonstrating an ambitious portfolio of BIPV solutions, technologies and systems. In this context, the role of the company Onyx Solar (ONYX) is to develop a new portfolio of BIPV solutions capable of answering the mentioned market demands and technical requirements. Some of the products developed, with a basis on crystalline silicon (c-Si) and copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) photovoltaic technologies, are fully opaque BIPV glazing with hidden busbars and L-interconnections, BIPV glazing with back contact cell technology, framing systems for XL format and large thickness BIPV modules, BIPV glazing incorporating treatments for improved passive properties and curved BIPV glazing with integrated flexible CIGS. Product development phases include the development of prototypes for indoor validation testing, outdoor testing in sophisticated test-benches and the demonstration of the solutions in real operational environments, integrated as ventilated façades, curtain walls and skylights in buildings located in different European cities. ONYX has estimated the necessary resources in the manufacturing of the new prototypes and calculated the costs, selling price and payback time of the solutions Price of the solutions developed meet pre-established targets. Performance and payback targets are also achieved. This paper describes main procedures and results regarding the development of prototypes to comply with most relevant requirements applicable to the BIPV field.</p>
