<p>The German government has adopted a comparable approach in Germany’s national climate change strategy described in the Climate Action Plan 2050, which sets a long-term roadmap for sector-specific emissions reductions including transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric mobility, as part of the “Energiewende (Energy Transition)” strategy. Worldwide, petroleum and other liquid fuels are the dominant source of transportation energy with over 90% share in 2020. Personal mobility-related fuel consumption accounted for 61% of total world transportation energy consumption. In order to reduce urban mobility related CO2 emissions and fossil fuel consumption, transportation of passengers and goods needs to be electrified through cost effective solutions. This paper describes an affordable L7e class, hydrogen fuel cell and lithium ion battery powered composite vehicle platform complying with future urban mobility trends. In order to address this objective, a universal L7e class urban electric vehicle platform based on methanol polymer exchange membrane fuel cell range extender technology, ultra-light composite filament winding technology, low speed autonomous technology and permanent magnet synchronous AC motor technologies was researched, designed and integrated into different segments to create a cost effective zero emission urban mobility solution.</p>
