Frequently asked questions.
For authors
-
How much does it cost to publish?
Publication costs £150 per article across all our journals. Members of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET) publish for free. We do not charge submission fees, reading fees, or subscription fees of any kind.
-
Who owns the copyright after publication?
You do. Authors retain full copyright of their work. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY 4.0), which means anyone can read, share, and build upon the work as long as they credit you as the author.
-
How long does peer review take?
Most submissions receive a first decision within 8 to 12 weeks. Timelines vary depending on the journal, the field, and the availability of suitable reviewers. We work to keep authors informed throughout the process.
-
How do I submit my manuscript?
You can submit directly through your journal's website. Each journal has its own submission guidelines and peer review process, accessible from the journal homepage.
-
Where will my article be indexed?
Every article receives a DOI through Crossref and is indexed in services including Google Scholar, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), OpenAIRE, BASE, and Semantic Scholar. Coverage in Scopus, Web of Science, and other major databases varies by journal. See our indexing policy for the full list.
-
Can I use AI tools in writing my submission?
Yes, with disclosure. AI tools may assist with writing, data analysis, or formatting, but you remain fully responsible for the content of your work. Substantial AI contribution must be disclosed in the manuscript, and AI tools cannot be listed as authors. See our policy on generative AI for the full guidance.
-
Can I withdraw a submission?
Yes. Authors may withdraw a manuscript at any time before publication by contacting the journal's editorial office. After publication, articles can only be removed in exceptional circumstances, in line with our correction and retraction policy.
For editors and societies
-
Can I start a new journal or move an existing one to Caravel?
Yes. We work with editors, societies, and institutions to host both new and existing journals. Get in touch and we will walk through what hosting with Caravel would look like for your journal.
-
Will my editorial team keep full independence?
Yes. Editors have full authority over the content selected for publication. Decisions to accept, revise, or reject manuscripts are made independently, guided by peer review and the editor's judgment. We do not interfere with editorial decisions. See our editorial independence policy.
-
What does onboarding look like?
We schedule live video calls with your editorial team and walk through the platform together, stage by stage, until everyone is comfortable. Sessions are followed up with written notes and short walkthrough recordings your team can revisit. See our journal hosting overview.
-
Do you publish books and conference proceedings?
Yes. We publish monographs, edited volumes, and textbooks, as well as open access conference proceedings for societies and research networks. Each is published to the same standards as our journals: peer reviewed, CC BY licensed, and permanently preserved. Get in touch to discuss a book project or proceedings volume.

I can't access my journal account. What should I do?
If you're unable to log in, try resetting your password using the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page. If that doesn't work, contact us at info@caravelpress.com with your name, email address, and the journal you're trying to access. We'll help you restore your account as quickly as possible.
-
What platform do you use for publishing?
All Caravel Press journals run on Open Journal Systems (OJS), the open source publishing platform developed by the Public Knowledge Project. We work alongside Crossref for DOI registration, ORCID for author identification, and CLOCKSS for long-term preservation.
