Using this site, and publishing with us.

These terms govern your access to and use of the services provided by Caravel Press, including our websites, applications, APIs, email notifications and any related features. By using them you agree to be bound by these terms and to comply with all applicable laws. If you do not agree to them, please do not use our services. All content made available through them is subject to them.

You are responsible for your use of the services, for any content you submit through them, and for any consequences of that. Content you upload or publish may be viewed by other users and through third-party platforms. Only provide content you are comfortable sharing publicly under these terms.

You may use the services only if you can form a legally binding contract with Caravel Press and are not prohibited from receiving services under the laws of your jurisdiction. If you are accepting these terms on behalf of an organisation, you warrant that you have the authority to do so.

The services may change from time to time. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of them, temporarily or permanently, and may impose limits on usage or storage.

The journals carry no advertising. Where a society, funder or institution is acknowledged, it is named as an acknowledgement and never as an advertisement, and it has no part in what is published.

Any information you provide is subject to our privacy policy, which governs the collection, use and protection of your personal data. By using the services you consent to that processing.

We may send you communications that are part of the service itself, such as decisions on your paper, proofs to approve, or administrative notices about your account. These are core to the service and you may not be able to opt out of them.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens under your account. We encourage a strong and unique password. Caravel Press is not liable for loss or damage resulting from a failure to safeguard your credentials.

All content, whether published or privately transmitted, is the responsibility of whoever originated it. Caravel Press does not monitor everything submitted and cannot take responsibility for it. Your reliance on any content is at your own risk.

We do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of any content or communication posted through the services, nor any opinion expressed in one. Peer review is described in the peer review policy and is what we do assert about a published article.

You keep all rights in the content you submit. By submitting it you grant Caravel Press a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, with the right to sublicense, to use, reproduce, process, adapt, publish, transmit, display and distribute it in any medium or format now known or later developed.

This licence lets us operate the services and make your work available to indexing and distribution partners in line with our publishing and access policies. We may adapt content technically in order to transmit, display or publish it in different formats.

You are responsible for the content you provide, and you warrant that you have the rights and permissions necessary to grant the licence described here. Caravel Press is not liable for any use of your content made in accordance with these terms.

Caravel Press grants you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-transferable and non-exclusive licence to use the software and systems provided as part of the services, solely to access and benefit from them in accordance with these terms.

All rights in the services, excluding content provided by users, remain the property of Caravel Press and its licensors. Nothing in these terms grants you the right to use our name, trademarks, logos or domain names without prior written permission.

Feedback and suggestions you give us are voluntary, and we may use them freely and without obligation to you.

We reserve the right, though not the obligation, to remove or refuse to distribute content, and to suspend or terminate accounts.

We may access, preserve and disclose information where we reasonably believe it necessary to comply with the law, to enforce these terms, to detect or address fraud or security issues, to answer a support request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of the press, its users and the public.

While using the services you will not:

• Access, tamper with or use non-public areas of the services, our systems, or the infrastructure of our providers.
• Probe, scan or test the vulnerability of any system or network, or breach or circumvent any security or authentication measure.
• Access the services by any means other than the interfaces we provide, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
• Use crawlers or scrapers to collect data from the services, except as our robots.txt permits. Our metadata is openly available through the OAI-PMH endpoint and the feeds, which is the supported way to harvest it.
• Forge headers or use the services to send altered, deceptive or false information.
• Interfere with or disrupt any user, host or network, including by overloading, flooding or spamming the services.

Caravel Press respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users to do the same. We will respond to properly submitted notices of alleged infringement.

A notice should include:

• A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or someone authorised to act for them.
• Identification of the copyrighted work said to have been infringed.
• Identification of the material said to be infringing, in enough detail for us to find it.
• Your full name, address, telephone number and email address.
• A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
• A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act for the owner.

Send a notice to info@caravelpress.com. We may remove or disable access to material alleged to be infringing, and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

You may end your agreement with us at any time by deactivating your account and no longer using the services. If you stop using them without deactivating, your account may be deactivated after prolonged inactivity.

We may suspend or terminate your account, or stop providing part of the services, where we reasonably believe you have violated these terms, that your actions create risk or legal exposure for us, or that providing the services to you is no longer viable. Where we can, we will tell you at the email address on your account.

This section limits our liability, and each part of it applies only to the maximum extent the law allows. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain disclaimers, so parts of it may not apply to you, and nothing here is intended to limit a right that cannot lawfully be limited.

The services are provided as they are. Your use of them is at your own risk, and they are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties and conditions, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

We make no representations about the completeness, accuracy, availability, timeliness or reliability of the services or any content; about harm to your system or loss of data arising from using them; about the deletion or failure to store any content; or about whether the services will meet your requirements or be uninterrupted or error-free.

Links. The services may link to third-party sites and resources. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or content, and a link does not imply endorsement. Your use of them is at your own risk.

Limitation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Caravel Press is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, use or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the services, from the conduct or content of any third party on them, from any content obtained through them, or from unauthorised access to or alteration of your content.

In any event our aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of one hundred pounds sterling, or the amount you have paid Caravel Press in the six months before the claim.

Waiver and severability. A failure to enforce a right or provision is not a waiver of it. If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, it is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in force.

Governing law. These terms, and any dispute arising out of them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any proceedings must be brought in the courts of England and Wales.

Entire agreement. These terms and our privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the services, and replace any earlier agreement about them, except where you have a separate written agreement with us that supplements or replaces them.

We may revise these terms. The current version is always at https://caravelpress.com/terms. If we consider a revision material we will tell you at the email address on your account. Continuing to use the services after a revision takes effect means you accept it.
