Information/Access, rights and preservation

Open access

Research and Reviews in Sustainability is fully open access. Every article is free to read and free to reuse from the day it is published.

The statement

Every article in Research and Reviews in Sustainability is published Gold Open Access: open access immediately, in the journal itself, with no version of it held behind anything. The copyright holder of every article grants usage rights to others under an open licence, which permits any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text, crawl it for indexing, pass it to software as data, or use it for any other lawful purpose.

This is the definition of open access used by DOAJ, and Research and Reviews in Sustainability meets it in full.

  • There is no embargo. The full text is available on the day of publication.
  • There is no registration, login or account of any kind required to read.
  • There is no subscription, and no part of the journal sits behind one.
  • There is no subscription-only content in Research and Reviews in Sustainability, so it is not a hybrid.

Research and Reviews in Sustainability has published all of its content under an open licence since 2025.

Third-party material

Where an article reproduces material the authors do not own, that material is used with permission or under fair dealing, is clearly identified, and its copyright holder and licence are stated in the caption. Everything else in the article is covered by the article's own licence.

Why

Research that cannot be read cannot be used. We take the position set out in the Budapest Open Access Initiative: the public good served by removing access barriers is greater than the revenue that barriers protect.

This policy applies to every journal we publish. Last revised 28 August 2026.
