This paper describes a solar desalination system using a PV array of 260 modules with a 28kW capacity. Solar energy would be the power source to run an inverse-osmosis desalination plant (SRODP) with waste-energy recovery. The system proposed could provide 1.39kg/s worth of drinking water. It is proposed the SRODP operates in the region between Loreto and Santa Lucia, Baja California Sur, Mexico due to the region’s tourist and commercial potential and given its present potable water scarcity situation. In addition the region presents high solar irradiance incidence. An overall investment estimate for the SRODP described is 20,000USD with an annual operating cost of 500USD
