Abstract

Solar energy and wind energy are the two most viable renewable energy resources in the world. This paper reports the potential of solar and wind energy applications in Chinese's Guangdong coastline area. Good complementary characteristics are found between the solar and the wind energy resources. One optimization sizing model for hybrid solar-wind energy systems is presented based on the Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) technique and the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCE) concept. Two pilot hybrid solar-wind power projects have been developed for China Mobile's communication stations. The monitoring results of one of the projects are reported.
