Abstract

A simulation model using ASPEN PLUS was conducted to investigate the effect of co-gasification of coal and biomass (rice husk) on the performance and pollutant emissions of gasifier in IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combustion Cycle) power plants. Influences of feedstock (coal/biomass blending ratio) and operating conditions on specific gasification characteristics (gas composition and cold gas efficiency) are studied. Information on the emission of particulate matters was analyzed. From the simulation results, an optimum range between 6% and 10% was obtained to be a reasonable blending ratio considering on the cold gas efficiency and gaseous pollutant index. The finding from this research confirmed that rice husk is an excellent renewable fuel for co-gasification and provided some valuable reference to the operation of IGCC power plant.
