This study aims to estimate the effect of white roof on urban climate under Korean climate conditions. This was accomplished by predicting the increase in albedo due to roof-whitening and quantifying the changes in net radiation and sensible heat flux in the area under study. The changes in net radiation and sensible heat flux due to change of roof color was estimated by analyzing the albedo according to roof colors and by utilizing the KICT Surface Model. The total decrease in net radiation due to white roof was largest in spring and smallest in winter, with the rate of this decrease being highest in winter and lowest in summer. The total decrease in sensible heat flux was largest in summer and smallest in winter, with the rate of this decrease being highest in winter and lowest in summer, as in the case of net radiation.
