An experimental investigation on the influence of sink temperature on the performance of the modified generator absorber heat exchange (GAX) absorption cooling system is presented. The system is oil fired and designed for a cooling capacity of 10.5 kW using ammonia-water as working fluid pair. Apart from the conventional solution heat exchanger, the modified system comprises of condensate pre-cooler, GAX arrangements at the high pressure side replaces the rectification column, a low pressure GAX, a solution cooler and an additional solution heat exchanger to recover the waste heat from the flue gas. The performance of the system in terms of amount of internal heat recovered and coefficient of performance are evaluated. The results show that the amount of internal heat recovered increases with increase in sink temperature and an actual COP of 0.60 was attained at 35 °C sink temperature.
