Abstract

This work presents a modelling framework for the optimal design of a hybrid first/second generation biofuel supply chain. Sustainability constraints on the use of first generation food crops as well as the land competition between second generation energy crops are also considered. The applicability of the proposed model is demonstrated using a case study of bioethanol production in the UK based on the 2020 target of the EU Commission for biofuels.
