Abstract

Hazelnut refuse is an agricultural residue that stays in the field after the harvest of hazelnut, which can not be evaluated properly. Similarly, TSR (thick syrup residuum) waste is an industrial waste, which needs to be eliminated from the plant. Therefore, briquetting of lignite with these biomass sources would be a good solution for the limitations related to coal and biomass materials. In this study, a lignite sample from Çorum–Bayat area of Turkey was used to be briquetted with these biomass sources. It was found that the greater the briquetting pressure, the higher the quality of the briquettes manufactured from lignite or biomass samples. Addition of biomass into the lignite was also obtained to improve compressive and impact strengths of the biocoalbriquettes.
