Abstract

In this study biodiesel fuel in different volume percentages were blended with diesel fuel and nano-particles were added to this new fuel. Transestrification method was used for biodiesel fuel production. After blending of biodiesel with diesel fuel to B20 (20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent diesel fuel) nano particles with 8 nm diameter and 100% purity was produced and added to the blended fuel. Multi wall carbon nano tubes (MWNT) and nano-structure (1 / 3) Chiral Metal and (2 / 3) semiconductor zigzag particles with the length of 10µn and diameter of 5nm with purity rate of 95% were produced and added to the fuel. Experimental test results indicated the fact that adding nano-silver particles to biodiesel and diesel blended fuel, increased diesel engine performance variables including engine power and torque output. The results showed that the with increasing of nano particles to B20D80 (blended fuel with 20% Biodiesel and 80% diesel fuel), CO2 emissions increased. CO emission in a biodiesel fuel with nano-particles in all dynamometer loads was lower significantly compared to pure diesel fuel due to being oxygenated biodiesel. HC emission with diesel-biodiesel blended fuel that contains nano particles decreased significantly.
