Abstract

Pyrolysis of Indonesia empty fluid bunch (EFB) was conducted under isothermal conditions (400℃, 500℃, 600℃, 700℃) in a thermo balance. Based on the thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), reaction kinetics of EFB was obtained by using shrink-core model for moisture drying process and de-volatilization reaction. In the Arrhenius equation, the activation energy (Ea) and pro-exponential factor are 81.55 (kJ/mol) and 3.37E+04 (sec⁻¹), respectively. For de-volatilization reaction, the activation energy, pro-exponential factor and rate constant are 34.84 (kJ/mol) and 1.01E+4 (sec⁻¹), respectively. The yields of solid, gas and liquid of EFB were investigated in a tube furnace in terms of pyrolysis temperature. Maximum liquid yield of 48 (wt. %) was obtained at 500°C. As temperature increases, solid yield decreases while gas yield increases.
