The Harmony of ICT with the Power Smart Grid in Iran

To move towards making the transmission and distribution of power intelligent has been developed remarkably within this recent decade in Iran. This network is comprehensive that the consumers and power corporations are in need of having connection and exchanging data among one another in future power grid. In such a network there is a great increasing of efficiency along with the decrease of waste of energy.The speed of the growth of the current information and communication technology (ICT) in power industry does not harmonize with the intelligent process modeling and does not respond to the stakeholders’ growing necessity and expectations in this industry. The reason is this we still get the gap of necessary structural information in order to encounter the development of environmental sustainability in the industry. In this article we consider the effect of performing the price-based programs (PBP) as part of the demand response trend based on the use of smart meter for changing the way of power consumption in accordance with the subsidy targeting process made by the government and releasing the electricity price. We are going to look over real time pricing (RTP) in much more details rather than the other pricing procedures. What are more the essential use of ICT and other software (e.g. MY E-HOME) relating to management and control data in smart grid according to RTP are also explained. It is possible to perform the demand response programs and subsequently the beneficiaries’ active participation in subsidy targeting pattern by examining the infrastructure of communication and information technology in smart meters. The results are true for the Iranian power market but can in many areas also be transferred to other industrialized nations with liberalized power markets.
