Abstract

The higher the tall buildings, the more crucial effect the wind has. The purpose of this paper is to propose solutions to control the negative influence of the wind and to give suggestions on harnessing of wind energy in tall building design. It can be expected that wind energy will be widely and efficiently used for supplying electricity in the future due to its economical and environmental benefits. Wind turbines, as the power generator, have been integrated with tall building design in many projects. This could become a characteristic of future sustainable architecture. In order to improve the wind turbine’s efficiency of generating electricity, they could be placed on the upper part of the skyscraper or building corner, or between projected wings of the building, where there is a high wind velocity. The tall building’s shape and structure could also be designed to channel the airflow and to increase the wind speed towards the position where the wind turbine is fixed.
