Abstract

In Egypt, the cement industry sector has recorded impressive increase, especially, in the last decades. Nowadays, Egypt is considered to be one of the major exporting countries for cement in the Middle East and North Africa. Huge quantities of cement kiln dust (CKD) are produced every year by the Egyptian cement companies. The main goal for environmental protection agencies and governments, are to seek ways to minimize the dual problems of disposal and health hazards of CKD. This paper aims at utilization of CKD by construction sectors, in attempt to avoid the healthy and environmental risks, and maximizing the economic benefits of the cement company. The paper demonstrated that CKD can be adequate alternative for earth, as a fill material that is used in earth-bag building. It also yielded low cost dwellings, which help the government to face the urgent needs of shelters during the natural disasters.
