Working together Petkim and KBC have been able to produce a detailed and accurate utility system model of the power plant at the Petkim Complex using KBC’s ProSteam™ software. The model has been used to investigate the benefit of making significant operational changes to the power plant, by simulating the change to determine the impact it has on boiler steam production, fuel consumption, and power production. From the results of the simulations the energy saving potential and economic benefit were determined. The four changes investigated resulting in a reduction in energy consumption at Petkim worth 18.5 M US$ per year, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 84,673 tonnes per year.
