Abstract

A novel solar building is constructed in Hefei, China. The building made of wood structure occupies an area of 265.6 ㎡ with solar panels of 220㎡. The solar energy can supply the building with solar-power, solar space heating, solar-cooling and solar-hot water producing by the related novel solar technologies and components such as Photovoltaic-Trombe wall (PTW), dual-function solar collector (DFC), water type PV/T collector (PVT), heat pipe vacuum tube collector (HPVC), capillary radiation terminal devices (CRTD), absorption chiller and liquid desiccant dehumidification system (LDDS) driven by solar thermal energy. All of these unusual solar energy systems constitute a hybrid system and are well integrated with the building. The solar systems can operate in different modes to meet the energy demands in different seasons. Preliminary simulation by TRNSYS shows that the novel solar building could reduce more than 30% of the auxiliary energy consumption compared with the same scale of the office building in Hefei during the whole heating season. Experiment took on 20th Feb, 2013 showed the max temperatures of the north room and south room both reached 21℃ and the average temperatures were 17℃, only using the solar thermal energy for space heating.
