Abstract

World are planning for signification deployments of Renewable and Nuclear energy to produce energy from clean and sustainable source. Renewable energy will save hydrocarbons and oil that are currently used to generate energy which will reflect in the environmental pollution. The roadmap for Solar PV will envision up to 16% of global electricity. According to IEA, “6 300 TWh generated in 2050, up from the 4 500 TWh foreseen in the 2010 roadmap. Total global capacity overtook 150 gigawatts (GW) in early 2014”.(IEA, 2014) About half the large PV deployment would take place on buildings or nearby such as over parking. The prospects for self-consumption are higher in hot countries, where air-cooling loads partly drive consumption, and for buildings other than residential.(IEA, 2014) According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), heating and cooling accounted for 72% of the energy used in household in the United States. Air conditioning is claimed to account for over 65% of the energy consumption in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country.(SEEC, 2013) Desiccant cooling system has been growing rapidly since 2004 from 60 systems to more than 1000 system installed in less than ten years. However, compared to the potential of using solar energy to generate cooling, deployment levels are very low. In the Sunbelt region, where cooling demands are quickly rising, there are still only a few demonstration plants and studies available. (IRENA, 2015) The demand for cooling in hot and humid regions is more than heating which showed excellent opportunity to develop renewable cooling system in that region.(IEA, 2007) The need of a solar assisted desiccant system is more important today especially in regions of high humidity.(Elsarrag, 2008) This paper aims to presents a review of the available cooling technologies; followed by a pros and cons analysis of the different solar cooling processes as well a market study will be carried.
