Abstract
At present global annual mean CO2 concentration is the highest for 14 million years. Worldwide, petroleum and other liquid fuels are the dominant source of transportation energy with over 90% share in 2020. Personal mobility-related fuel use accounts for 61% of total world transportation energy consumption. In order to cope with the devastating effects of progressive temperature increases caused by the transportation sector, cost effective and innovative zero emission mobility solutions need to be developed. This paper describes an indigenously developed, hydrogen fuel cell and lithium ion battery-powered global vehicle platform complying with future mobility requirements. In order to address this objective, methanol based PEM fuel cell technology, aviation grade ultra-light 3D reinforced composite sandwich panel technology, in-wheel permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor technologies with embedded transmission systems were researched, developed and integrated into M1 and N1 class vehicle prototypes to create a cost effective zero emission mobility solution for passenger and goods transportation.
