For authors

What to send, what it costs, and what happens after acceptance.

Author guidelines

What to prepare for SET Proceedings, and how to submit it.

Before you write

  • Papers are welcome from academics, researchers and industry professionals working in the areas the conference covers. Membership of WSSET is not required.
  • Read the peer review policy, so you know what will happen.
  • Read the publication ethics policy. Submitting is a statement that you meet it.

What every submission must have

  • A title and an abstract in English. The abstract is 250 to 350 words and summarises the context, intent, methodology, findings and conclusions, with no citations and no undefined abbreviations.
  • Up to five keywords, placed immediately after the abstract.
  • Every author's full name, institution, city and country, and an email address for each.
  • CRediT contributor roles for every author, so a reader can see who did what. CRediT (ANSI/NISO Z39.104-2022).
  • A competing interests statement, or an explicit statement that there are none.
  • A data availability statement.
  • References in the Harvard style, listed alphabetically, cited in the text as (Author Surname, Year).

The contributor roles, the competing interests statement and the data availability statement are required from SET2027, as they are for every Caravel Press journal.

Asked for, where they apply

  • A funding statement, which is optional, naming every funder and grant number.
  • Research ethics approval details where the work involved people, animals or identifiable data. See the research integrity policy.
  • A generative AI declaration, naming any tool used and what it was used for. See the generative AI policy.
  • Acknowledgements, naming anyone who contributed but does not meet the conditions for authorship.

An ORCID iD for every author is recommended, not required. It is free, and it keeps this paper attached to the rest of your work whatever name you publish under.

Preparing the manuscript for anonymous review

SET Proceedings reviews anonymously in both directions. The manuscript template has no fields for author names or affiliations, so the file is anonymous as it stands. Keep it so:

  • Do not add author names, affiliations or contact details to the file.
  • Leave identifying acknowledgements and funding details out of the file for review.
  • Refer to your own earlier work in the third person, as you would anyone else's.
  • Check the file's document properties, which often still carry the author's name.

Format

Length
At most 10 pages, including the title page, abstract, figures and references.
File
Microsoft Word (.docx), in the official manuscript template for the conference.
Figures
Numbered, captioned below, and cited in the text. At most half of the paper.
Tables
Numbered, captioned above, and cited in the text.
Headings
At most two levels, using the template's styles.
Language
English.

Papers are typeset by Caravel Press from the Word file, so the template's styles matter more than its look.

Originality

  • A submission is original work, not published elsewhere in any form, and not under consideration anywhere else.
  • An extended version of a conference abstract or of preliminary findings is acceptable, provided this is acknowledged and the paper is substantially new.
  • Every submission is screened for plagiarism before review.

Submitting

  1. 1. Prepare

Prepare the paper in the manuscript template, the one Caravel Press's journals use, anonymised for double-anonymous review.

  2. 2. Submit

Submit it through Caravel Press: with its abstract, or after the abstract on its own has been approved.

  3. 3. Review

The paper is screened and reviewed as the peer review policy describes.

  4. 4. Accepted

WSSET invoices the article processing charge, and you submit the final version of the paper. See the charges.

  5. 5. Published

Caravel Press typesets, proofs and publishes the paper in the volume. See after acceptance.

Funder requirements

What a funder asks of a publication, and what SET Proceedings already does about it.

What every funder asks for

Every paper in SET Proceedings is open on the day it publishes, under a CC BY licence, with the copyright kept by you and a registered DOI. That is what open access mandates are built from, so for most funders it is the whole of it.

Give us the grant number and the programme in the funding statement and they travel with the paper into the Crossref deposit, where a funder looking for their own output can find it.

Charges

SET Proceedings is free to read. Two charges are made, separately, by WSSET: registration for the conference, and an article processing charge of USD 100 for each accepted paper.

What is charged

Conference registration
Charged by WSSET, at the rate the conference sets for its delegates. At least one author of each accepted paper registers. This is a charge for the conference, not for publication.
Article processing charge (APC)
USD 100 for each accepted paper, invoiced by WSSET on acceptance and settled before the paper is published. There is no reduced rate.
Submission fee
None.
Page charges
None.
Colour charges
None.
Charge to read
None. Every paper is free to read.
Charge from Caravel Press to authors
None.

The two charges are separate, and each is stated on its own. The article processing charge is not part of the registration fee, and the registration fee is not part of the article processing charge.

When it is charged

The article processing charge is raised only after a paper has been accepted. Nothing is payable to submit, and no article processing charge is payable for a paper that is declined.

Ability to pay plays no part in an editorial decision. Decisions are made on the reviewers' reports and the academic merit of the work alone.

Questions

After acceptance

What happens between acceptance and publication, and what you can do afterwards.

Production

  1. Camera-ready paper

You submit the final version of the paper in the conference's template. The author names and affiliations are taken from the submission, not from the file.

  2. Typesetting

Caravel Press typesets the paper: structure, references, figures and tables are checked against your file, and every query is settled with the editorial office.

  3. Proof

The editorial office reads and approves the proof of every paper before it is published.

  4. Publication

The paper is published in the conference's volume with its own DOI registered at Crossref, together with its full reference list, its licence, and every author's ORCID iD. The volume has its own DOI and an ISBN.

What you get

  • A permanent DOI that will resolve for as long as the DOI system exists.
  • A typeset PDF and a full-text web version.
  • JATS XML of the paper, which is what indexes and archives read.
  • The paper in the series' OAI-PMH endpoint the moment it is published.

What you may do with it

Anything you like. You keep the copyright, and the published version is open access under CC BY 4.0. See the repository policy for the versions and the timing, which is: all of them, immediately.

These policies apply to every journal we publish. Last revised 19 October 2026.
