Abstract

This paper studies the physical and environmental characteristics together with the architectural applications of fabric membrane structures. It explores the daylight environment provided by membrane structures through the analysis of four case studies of sports halls located in England. The study also explores issues of solar control, including the avoidance of problems such as glare, overheating or uneven illumination. Finally, advantages and disadvantages of introducing fabric membranes to control daylight penetration and quality are discussed.
