Abstract

The objectives of bioenergy development are framed in such as way to satisfy the international commitments undertaken by Italy within the Kyoto Protocol for the reduction of greenhouse gas emission. In regards to land management, notwithstanding the numerous and variegated supply sources, two fields of biomass origins can be specified: forests and agricultural areas. The energetic utilization of these fields is possible only if we move away from the limiting “sectorial” perspective and enter into the broader “system” perspective. Cleaning up agroforestal “land communities” is a way to ensure an integral and integrated use of renewable sources of energy as in just measure residual raw plant matter (forest maintenance, agricultural residues, the wood industry and the agro-feeding industry) and matter derived from energy crops. This process contribute to rendering the community self-sufficient from an energetic point of view offering remediation to a wide number of degenerating situations. For example, it can favour the cultivation of diversified plant species for non-wood use; use compost from waste and residues; reforest uncultivated lands; and so forth. Biomass energy technologies capture the energy stored in biomass and make it available in useful forms as liquid fuels (bioethanol, biodiesel, biomethanol). The paper report on the study finalized to evaluate the optimal operative conditions of a chemical pretrattament process for production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic materials.
