Abstract

This paper presents results of an experiment conducted to investigate the performance and development of an indirect evaporative cooling system employing a Psychometric Energy Core (PEC) unit under control operation conditions. Components of a 2 kW PEC system was designed and evaluated, and the outcome of these tests is used to optimise the final design of the cooling system. Results of the test have shown that the performance of the system can be maximised by optimizing the PEC pads wetting rate and the air flow rate through the core. Based on the preliminary results the system design was optimised. The performance of the optimised system in terms of cooling capacity was improved by about 80% compared to the original system, and COP of 33 was achieved.
