Using cooling tower for auxiliary heating in transition season was put forward in order to use existed water-cooling chiller more effectively. The characteristics of tower were tested by experiments and the effects of air flow rate, water flow rate and inlet water temperature on the performance of packing were analyzed. Experimental results showed that: with the increase of air flow rate, the temperature difference of inlet and outlet water became larger and therefore the heat transfer rate was enhanced. Meanwhile with the increased water flow rate, the water temperature difference was decreased though the heat transfer rate was increased. Temperature-rising efficiency (TRE), defined as the inlet and outlet water temperature difference divided with the inlet wet-bulb temperature and inlet water temperature difference, was influenced by the air flow rate and water flow rate remarkably but little changed with the inlet water temperature.
