Abstract

In Korea, functional unit of CO2 emission of rebar, which represents one of the integral construction materials, is published by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) and the Ministry of Construction and Transport (MOCT). However, they limited the scope of CO2 emission from rebar production to raw material mining and steel mill. As rebar is an intermediary product supposed to go through several steps including fabrication and placement before final consumption, it is sensible to consider the entire life cycle if CO2 emission from rebar is to be estimated. This research is intended to estimate functional unit of CO2 emission in fabrication step of rebar work life cycle. Results of this research will be utilized as inputs to estimation of CO2 emission from entire rebar work process.
