Abstract

Effects of various parameters on the performance of a very small prototype adsorption chiller have been investigated experimentally. In making of this chiller only 820 grams of silica-gel has been used. The silica-gel has been attached to the surface of the heat exchanger by resin epoxy. Effects of variation in condenser input temperature, evaporator input temperature, and initial vacuum pressure on the rate of heat exchange has been investigated experimentally. Resistance to mass transfer between different parts of the system has been recognized as the most effective parameter on the system performance coefficient. It has been concluded that the ratio of heat transfer can be used as a simple yet powerful tool in performance analysis of an adsorption chiller.
