Abstract

Demand for new sustainable biofuels technologies is increasing every day due to the rapid outgrowth of the current energy scenario, where the gap between “brown” and "green" fuels is destined to drastic reduction. The new technological thinking for the production of liquid biofuels from biomass was inspired by several existing technologies. The new industrial plant for the complete cycle of conversion of biomass into bio-fuel will serve as a platform for research and experimentation and preparation for industrial development of new catalysts. It is applicable to the process of molecular rearrangement of all the refusals with organic matrix, originated from human agro-industrial activity (e.g. undifferentiated urban waste collection, industrial solid and/or liquid refusals, sludge, waste from petrochemical processing, medical waste etc.), excluding inert and pre-separated recyclable matters (metal, glass and other inert matter). The new industrial plant will contribute for improvement of the economic, environmental and social benefits of biofuels and achievement of for more favourable energy and GHG balances. The target of this project is to build-up the new concept bio-refinery directly in to a logistic hub to be realized in Italy on east side, at more or less 100 km from Bologna - Italy. The new logistic hub will serve a large amount of heavy transportation vehicles and it will be realized is close to one of the major vegetables and fruits cultivation areas all over Europe.
