LIFE is Europe’s only business incubator focussed entirely on low Carbon energy technology development, covering energy production, supply and utilisation. The development and operation of the LIFE energy technology incubator in South Yorkshire, UK, part of the region’s energy and environment cluster is described. LIFE nurtures and supports organisations developing sustainable energy technologies - including fuel cells, hydrogen infrastructure, photo-voltaic technology, wind and wave energy and bio-fuels. Three of LIFE’s companies have listed on the UK’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Four case studies of low Carbon technology developments in the LIFE incubator including large scale, medium scale and micro scale power technologies are also covered.
