Abstract

A new idea of combined desalination and power generation using solar heating device was presented in this paper, a simple reaction turbine was designed and made based on the trilateral cycle of thermodynamics. To improve the efficiency of system in power generation, a new disc convergent-divergent nozzle was used in the turbine. According to theoretical analysis of the thermodynamics process, the correlation between variation cooling temperature at different hot brine temperatures were found, and the relationship between power production and different cooling temperatures for different hot brine temperatures were also obtained. After simple experiment, the actual fresh water percentage value was a little higher than the theoretical value, but the power generation in the test was much lower than that in the theoretical calculation which means that the nozzle efficieny might be too low and the dimensions of nozzle needs to be improved farther. The other influencing factors are also needed to be considered such as the condenser efficiency, drag losses, chamber pressure and etc.
