This paper present result of an experimental work conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the microencapsulated Phase Change Material (PCM) when coupled with clay, and cement, to be used as solution to reduce an overheating inside dwelling buildings. Different percentages of the materials mixtures have been fabricated in forms of panel’s size 300*300*10 (mm) and 300*300*20 (mm). The thermal conductivity of macro encapsulation PCM by adding Clay, cement, gypsum and sand have been investigated in order to find out their impact. The results obtained shows the PCM can be coupled well with clay as environmental material, which could be used as part of the building construction materials. Moreover, as the PCM has disadvantage of inadequate heat transfer, the mixing has exposed the ability of conduct the heat that is improving the performance of PCM by increasing the ability of absorb and relies heat by reducing the time lag from about 20% to up to 40%.
Keywords. Clay; Phase Change Material (PCMs); thermal conductivity
