Abstract

Agri-tecture is the combination of agriculture and architecture. And Building-Integrated Agriculture (BIA) is the special type of agricultural production, which utilizes building space and existing environment control conditions, recycling the agricultural organic waste and other urban organic waste. First of all, the characteristics of Agri-tecture will be clarified, based on the principles of sustainability, as well as the requirements both agriculture and architecture should comply with. Secondly, some strategies for suitable agricultural building development will be examined. Besides, the climatic factors along with the relevant local agricultural production, local agricultural supply cycle, and existing building environmental control conditions are the crucial causes of main working time and form of BIA. Taking Beijing area in China for example, the mechanisms of these factors within the scope of BIA will be analyzed. And with this mechanism of implementations, the suitable BIA modes in Beijing will be discussed. Finally, based on the definite time and form in practices, BIA spatial location, interface and enclosed structural features are refined, by the comparison of the temperature, light, relative humidity and spatial scales demands of people and crop.
